Multiple Choice Exams Tips

General Rule: Think of the correct answer and then look for it among the alternatives. 1. Don't guess too soon! You must select not only a correct answer, but the best answer. It is therefore important that you read all of the options and not stop when you come upon one that seems likely. 2. You must select not only a technically correct answer, but the most completely correct answer. Since "all of the above" and "none of the above" are very inclusive statements, these options, when used, tend to be correct more often than would be predicted by chance alone. 3. Be wary of the extra-long or "jargony option." These are frequently used as decoys. 6. Use your knowledge of common prefixes, suffixes, and word roots to make intelligent guesses about terminology that you don't know. A knowledge of the prefix "hyper," for instance, would clue you that hypertension refers to high, not low, blood pressure. 4. Be alert to give-aways in grammatical c

How to Remember Things Using Study Tricks

Image
Are you having a tough time studying? You probably need some tricks to help you remember things better. Try a couple of these, and you may see a positive change in your studying ability. Step1: Visualize. If you're having trouble remembering facts about Bill Gates , picture Bill Gates with things in his hands and in the background. For example, you can picture Bill Gates with a Microsoft logo, standing in front of a bunch of computers. It's an oversimplified example, but it shows that by using a picture, you can jog your memory. Step 2: Create acronyms . For example, to learn the the musical notes that are on the treble clef, create an acronym. Since they are E G B D F, you can say Every Girl Buys Dumb Fashion, or something silly like that. (You can use a standard one, like Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge, but making one up may help it stick in your mind better.) Step 3: Make a song or poem out of what you need to learn. You'll remember the beat and pattern, so you can re

Group Study - An Effective Learning Method

When your group controls the learning process, your learning is faster, more relevant, and sustained. Assessment is built into your group's competency and control. In a group environment, students are less likely to procrastinate. After all, it’s easy to put off an assignment when you only have yourself to answer to, isn’t it? But when you know you have a whole group of people counting on you, you’ll be more likely to get the job done. Group study also encourages students to explain things aloud. By speaking to and listening to others, students often improve on recall ability, or ability to remember information on test day. Students who study with others are also forced to become more organized. Once you learn to date and label your notes, you’ll see that organized notes make much more sense at the end of the week than the jumbled, mix and match variety. One more great benefit of group discussion is that the many perspectives improve your chances of anticipating test quest

Scan Reading

Reading for me does not mean going plainly through each words and text. There are certain forms of reading (such as rapid reading, skimming etc.) that helps me to make my reading time effectively. When I want to look for something and it requires me to do it immediately I apply the scanning reading form (for example, reading back cover before purchasing an Agatha Chriestie novel). This helps me to easily find what I’m looking for without reading the full page of the writings. But remember in doing this form you must know the names, topic or keywords you’re looking for. On the other hand if I want to know whether the materials Im reading is useful on my research I do the skimming reading method (picking up main points). This form helps me to understand the general idea of the writings. It also helps me identify the significance of the wording. Hence it makes my reading time more efficient. When I read for the purpose of learning new things I do the light reading technique . This allo
